The Hague, The Netherlands

Three years ago, I had embarked on one of the most amazing journeys of my life. For two weeks, I spent a substantial amount of time, exploring The Netherlands, Switzerland, and France, (and making an 8 hour stop in Ireland). I still say that I’ve technically been to Ireland… because I mean, I haven’t NOT been!

The two week trip was part of a college course I took on international human rights law. I visited places like, the Peace Palace, the United Nations, the International Criminal Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia (established to prosecute crimes committed during the Yugoslav Wars), and the Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons. I remember when I was a child, watching the news, and they would show the gatherings of countries and their diplomats at the U.N; and thinking to myself how near it would be to sit in that room. And lo and behold, 15+ years later, I got to sit in on meetings at the U.N. It was one of the most phenomenal experiences of life!

Aside from the coursework and class meetings, I was very lucky to have been allotted the time to explore one of the world’s most beautiful continents. Since this trip happened 3 years ago, I thought the best and easiest way would be to show you all some of the best photos I took, while there.

The Netherlands

We spent our first week in The Hague.

My friends and I rented some bikes and rode to the beach.

This was inside the Peace Palace. It reads “Peace Palace,” in English, French, and Dutch.

Hotel Sebel was where we stayed at in The Hague.

We rode our bikes to the beach and got out to explore. It was really foggy and gray, that day, but that didn’t stop us!

How often do you see this? A man riding a coffee cart. You can stop him and order a coffee!

The architecture there was absolutely stunning. Not just in The Hague, but in the other countries I visited, too.

There was an entire row of the word, “peace,” engraved in stone, outside of the Peace Palace, in hundreds of different languages.

We walked to the top of a tower and got to see this amazing view of The Hague.
