Freeport, Maine is one of my all time favorite towns to visit. I especially love it during the holidays when the town is festively decorated and lit up at night. Freeport is a town, located about 15 minutes north from the city of Portland, sitting on the north shore of Casco Bay. The town is well known for its array of outlets, bringing in many tourists and locals, as well. There, you can find everything from designer shops, to cafés, restaurants, and outdoor fun! This cute and cozy town is a great place to visit with friends and family… or even on your own!
As I mentioned in a previous post, Freeport is famously known for its iconic L.L. Bean boot, which has many tourists swooning over and waiting to get a photo next to it. I shouldn’t say “only tourists” because even Mainers, like myself, love being photographed next to the big boot, just as much! L.L. Bean is a popular New England store, particularly known for its outdoorsy apparel, hunting, fishing, camping, and other outdoor supplies. Even when I don’t have anything to purchase, it’s such a fun store to walk around in! L.L. Bean has several locations, scattered throughout Maine, but if you’re going to visit one, I highly recommend the one in Freeport! I’ve linked the website to the store, below. https://m.llbean.com/store.html?id=freeport&categoryId=1000001709
One of my all time favorite places for tasty pastries, is Wicked Whoopies. This place serves the classic, cream filled whoopie pie, along with many other tasty flavors, such as, strawberry, peanut butter, raspberry, oatmeal, chocolate chip, and much much more! I tried this place a few years back, for the first time, and completely slipped my mind to stop in when I was in Freeport! I have linked the website for you to take a look at, below. It’s located on the Main Street of the outlets. Be sure to stop in! http://www.wickedwhoopies.com
Another one of my favorite stores, is Mexicali Blues. This fun and eclectic store has everything from hippy clothing, to Bohemian fashions, to handcrafted jewelry, and much more! I bought the warmest pair of mittens, there last year, and they continue to be a staple in my fall and winter wardrobe! They also sell cozy wool sweaters, ponchos, skirts, dresses, and more. This is a great place to shop if you’re looking for a gift. This store, I believe, is located only in Maine with a few others thoughout the state. So whenever, I’m home, I try to make a stop there! http://m.mexicaliblues.com/Default.aspx
Aside from the array of shops located on the Main Street of the outlet, there is also the Freeport Village Station, which is located right along the Main Street. It has two entry ways and both bring you to the open shopping area, filled with stores and food, such as, Calvin Klein, Coach, Claire’s, Famous Footwear, Johnny Rockets, Dairy Queen, Old Navy, and so much more! I have linked the full directory, below. http://www.onefreeportvillagestation.com/store-directory
If you’re in the mood for pizza, be sure to stop in at Antonia’s Pizzeria. I love, love, love that place. Not only do they serve Italian, but they also serve Greek and American foods, as well. This four star, family friendly restaurant is the perfect place to satiate your hunger! I try to stop in at least once during my visits home. Antonia’s is located about 5 minutes (driving distance) from the Freeport outlets. Unfortunately, I don’t have any photos to show for this restaurant, so I have linked their website, here: http://www.antoniaspizzeria.com . Take my word for it, though, their food is mouthwatering, delicious!
I generally stay within the Main Street of Freeport because that’s my favorite area to walk around in. However, there is so much more to see, there. Freeport is very rich in history, which I have yet to fully explore, but hope to soon. The town is absolutely beautiful in every way and I hope you get to see it for yourself!
