Location: Wells Beach, Maine
It may be hard for some to believe that the ocean could be just as beautiful in the winter, as it is in the summer. No matter the drastic change in temperature, it’s always one of my favorite places to visit, when I’m home, especially when the sun begins to set. I think it’s become somewhat of a tradition, that whenever I come home to visit, my sister and I take a ride down to Wells Beach. If you’re ever looking for a quick and quiet getaway, the beach in December, is definitely one of the best places to escape to, since it’s not flooded by people, this time of year. Literally the only sounds you’ll hear, are the sounds of waves, softly making their way to the shore.
Maine has gotten quite a bit of snow, since I’ve been here, and I’ve been loving every minute of it. I guess it’s because I know I’m only here for a few weeks, and won’t be seeing much of it in Georgia. The winters aren’t so painful for me when I’m only visiting for a few weeks. And after 3 years of Oklahoma living, where it’s hot out for 90 percent of the year, I really don’t mind wearing all these cozy layers for braving the cold!
My sister and I headed over to the beach, yesterday, just in time to watch the sunset. The sky was just a wide open canvas of soft, cotton candy pinks, blues, purples, and yellows. The ocean was moderatly calm and there were only about two other people on the beach, taking a stroll. It was brisk, but not uncomfortably cold (for me, at least). We walked around a little and made our way closer to the water. Sometimes the tide will be so high, you can’t even walk down to the beach, so we really lucked out, yesterday.
I used to hate the beach in the winter time. It didn’t feel the same to me, as it did in the summer. Since I rarely get a chance to visit the ocean, I really savor these moments, like no other. My heart felt so full, being able to watch the sun set behind the water. It’s moments like these, when you really have to stop and take a mental picture so that you never forgot the feeling of being somewhere so calm and peaceful.
